Is the relationship between the long axis of the fetus to the long axis of the mother.
Three possible lies
1. > 99% Longitudinal
This is the only NORMAL position
Long axis of the fetus is aligned to the long axis of the mother.
Can be:
Cephalic/Vertex (head down)
Breach (butt or feet down)
2. <1%Transverse
Long axis of the fetus is at a right angle or perpendicular to the long axis of the mother.
3. <1% Oblique
Some angle between the longitudinal lie and the transverse lie.
