
Is a protozoal infection caused by the intracellular parasite Toxoplasma gondii.
Transmission:
- Exposure to cat feces, infected soil
- Ingestion of infected raw or under-cooked meat
Recommendations
Avoid contact with cat feces
Wear gloves while gardening
Avoid raw or under-cooked meat
Can cause severe congenital malformations when the mother acquires the infection while pregnant!
Most severe cases when transmission occurs late in the first trimester of pregnancy.
